What do you do in your role at The Next Step?

As a consultant at The Next Step, I focus on Operations related opportunities.  When working with different clients, I provide “fresh eyes” to them helping them look at their business to help them with improving workflow, product quality, organizational structure, and leadership.

How/when did you first become interested in this type of work?

In a sense, I have always done this work.  I have run many Operations group, applying the same continuous improvement, Operational development, and leadership methodologies.  With my work with TNS, I get to apply my experience with the Clients I work with.

What aspect your job brings you the most satisfaction?

When I see a client get the “A ha!” experience.  While I am working with them to improve an aspect of their business, I enjoy them learning how to use the methodologies and techniques we work together on.

If you have a pet, what do you most enjoy about them?

We have an Australian Labradoodle named Rory.  My kids named him after a character from the “Dr. Who?” TV series.  There are two things I enjoy about him.  Rory is fun to play with – we spend many hours “playing catch” in the backyard and taking walks on our local walking paths.  More importantly, I love seeing his interaction and connection with my family.  They are nuts about him and he is of them.

How do you like to spend your free time?

My free time is centered around my family. I always say I am a Husband/Dad first, and everything follows in line after that.  If it in not doing something together outside – work or play – we spend a lot of time together taking road trips, playing games, watching movies, or taking part in activities at our Church.
